What do a story and a brand have in common? They both have an audience.
In the book Made to Stick, Chip and Dan Heath explain that stories are far more memorable than statistics. To prove this, they put the theory to the test in an experiment with Stanford students.
Students had to give a 1-minute speech. They discussed whether non-violent crime is a serious issue. The students used 2.5 statistics in their 1-minute speeches, with only 1 out of 10 students using stories.
After 10 minutes, 5% of the audience recalled the stats. But, 63% remembered the stories.
This made the speeches with stories 12X more memorable ✨
